Heartland Hosts Ice Cream Social Meet and Greet with Mayor
Heartland Home Health and Hospice Serving Northeastern Wisconsin hosted an ice cream social “Meet and Greet” with Mayor Eric Genrich at Odd Fellow Home in Green Bay.
A former Heartland Hospice patient at Odd Fellow shared with Heartland Hospice Social Worker, Jenny Rae, that her end-of-life wish was to meet the new mayor of Green Bay. Jenny Rae wanted to help make the patient’s wish come true, so she began to plan all the details for the upcoming the event. Unfortunately, the patient passed away before the event took place, but Mayor Genrich still wanted to attend to honor the patient's wish.
While the mayor got acquainted with Odd Fellows residents and staff, Heartland employees scooped ice cream and served guests. “It was wonderful to see some of my hospice patients and other residents light up with feelings of significance that the mayor would come to specifically meet them,” Jenny Rae said. “Many individuals lose a sense of belonging and importance as they reach the end of their lives, but to have the mayor show them that they are still important and their voice matters really warms my heart.”
