Heartland Hospice Serving Middle Georgia Volunteer Continues Giving Back During Pandemic

At Heartland Hospice, we consider our involvement with patients a sacred opportunity and a privilege to be in their lives. We depend on our hospice volunteers to help us provide the love, respect and care our patients and their families need. Our volunteers are the heart of Heartland.
Heartland Hospice serving Middle Georgia has a wonderful group of dedicated volunteers ranging anywhere from 14-80 years old and serve as veteran volunteers, volunteering with their animals for pet visits and everything in between. Yolanda, a dedicated Heartland volunteer, has helped numerous patients and families in many ways over the past two years.
Upon moving to Georgia from California, Yolanda began as a patient visitor and office volunteer. Due to restrictions from the pandemic, she has persevered and continues volunteering in unique ways. Yolanda resides in a senior living facility that cares very much about the health of their residents. Therefore, there have been strict protocols in place since late February. No visitors are allowed inside, and residents are only allowed to leave the facility for very essential reasons.
Yolanda’s heart longed to still give back to the people of Heartland. After only a short period, she decided to continue volunteering with small tasks that could be dropped off and picked up at her facility in a safe way while maintaining social distancing guidelines. She started with making beautiful cards to send to every Heartland patient. Recently, she started making beautiful handmade crafts to bring cheer not only to Heartland’s patients, but also the staff. Her most recent craft was hand-painting and designing almost 100 birdhouses.
Yolanda said, “Throughout my whole life, I have always enjoyed helping others. My need to serve is the core of my being. In addition, praying always connects me to the Holy Spirit for guidance. When I first heard about the coronavirus, my heart was overwhelmed.” Volunteering has helped Yolanda continue to give back during these difficult times. “Volunteering gives me the opportunity to connect with others and be grateful for the life our Lord has given to us. Giving love fills my heart. I’m grateful to Heartland for allowing me to be of some help.”
Especially during these difficult times, Heartland Hospice is always accepting new, caring volunteers. For more information on volunteering, please visit our website to find a Heartland Hospice agency in your area.
