Heartland Hospice Hosts Community Veterans Panel
Every day, Heartland has the distinct honor of providing hundreds of U.S. military veterans with hospice care. We take pride in recognizing our veteran patients with certificates, pinning ceremonies and other special ways to show our appreciation for their service on behalf of all Americans.
Heartland Hospice serving Northeastern Wisconsin, a division of ProMedica, co-hosted a Community Veterans Panel Event with St. Joseph Residence. More than 30 people attended the event and enjoyed guest speakers Julie & Mike Hert, Lorraine & Tony VanKampen and Scott Katzka. Lorrain and Tony shared a video about the Old Glory Honor Flight’s success and how Veterans can apply for future flights. Scott Katzka, Director of the Green Bay Vet Center, educated attendees on different programs and resources that are offered to veterans and their families through the Vet Center.
Janna Nordeman, Heartland Medical Social Worker, discussed how Heartland’s staff is uniquely trained to care for veterans. Additionally, Janna shared that Heartland is now hosting Vet-to-Vet Café’s throughout the area and welcomed all veterans to join in these social opportunities.
During the event, the Heartland staff conducted a pinning ceremony for the veterans who were in attendance, gifting them with a Heartland Salutes Veterans pin and certificate recognizing their service. Laurie Shaw, St. Joseph Residence Facility Administrator, said, “The veterans who participated in the pinning ceremony have been ‘glowing for days’ upon having received their pin and certificate!”
